2020 Echoes Through Art

On a normal year I spend 6-8 weeks a year in Ireland...however, 2020 has had its own plans for us.

I love a good adventure but this wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Like everyone else I was feeling lonely and a bit lost as to how to make the most of this strange time.  With that in mind I decided to reach out to others to collaborate and document our feelings and experiences through words and art.  I began by reaching out to those on my street to start this series.

It is amazing how similar the echoes of our feelings are even though we are Students, Teachers, Parents, Small Business Owners and the such.  As much as we are the same we are also unique in our individual experiences in our daily lives with family and friends. Each board is very unique, even with similar feelings, as we all chose to verbalize them in our own manner.  Some boards have just words while others have small illustrations to help convey their life's events.

Once someone has written or drawn their feelings I take the piece to the studio.  In the studio I study it for a period of time.  Then I transform their feelings utilizing color and pictures to create their unique 2020 Echo.

My Hopes would be to bring a bit of

Comfort and a Distant Hug

through these amazingly unique pieces of artwork!

WANT TO COLLABORATE?

Commemorate this once in a hundred years COVID experience with a collaborative piece of artwork.   Not that we will forget this last year anytime soon.  Putting your frustrations, disappointments and feelings into writing can be very cathartic.  A simple drawing can make it even more personal if you’d like.

Creative Collaborative Process Timeline:  Once you decide on a size I will ship you a museum-quality gesso board and a black marker.  Once you receive the shipment you will create your own personal base layer for the painting.  Because you are unique and so are your experiences this is where you let your creativity shine.  Remember there are no mistakes or wrong ways of doing this.  The biggest thing is to spend quality time thinking of the words you’d like included.  Once you are finished if there are words that you need to include but don’t want to have openly exposed just let me know and a heavier coat of paint can just happen to land in that spot.

With your personal layer in place you will ship the gesso board back to me.  From there I will create a painting that allows your words to whisper through.  Updates as the painting is in progress will be sent to you so you can be part of the entire process.  Once I have finished and the painting is dry it will be shipped back to you ready for framing if you choose.
